- Like most $3 gold pieces the mintage in 1866 was only 4,000. Ample satin mint luster swirls in the field. Sharply struck devices show only the slightest trace of high point friction--this coin is very close to a full mint state grade and a doubling in price. PCGS 27, NGC 44, CAC 5. The only NGC/CAC coin to sell in auction was the Eric Newman coin which had some significant marks on the cheek which sold for $3,055 in November 2014. The most recent NGC coin that sold brought in September 2016 for $3,760 and this coin has a better eye appeal. Cert. Number 4337133-005 PCGS # 7987
