1861 Clark, Gruber & Co. $20 Gold Die Trial. K-12c. Rarity-6. Gilt Copper. MS-61 (NGC). After the style of the federal double eagles of the day, head of Liberty left surrounded by 13 stars, date below, PIKES PEAK on her coronet, reverse eagle at center, CLARK GRUBER & CO. DENVER TWENTY DOLLARS around. Soft yellow-gold surfaces exhibit definitive olive highlights. Some hairlines appear under low magnification, as do numerous tiny flecks that dot the reverse landscape, otherwise there are no marks worthy of discussion. A choice example of a rare gilt issue from the Colorado gold rush of the era.
