- 详细说明
- In 1797 the mint changed the reverse design of the eagle to the stronger heraldic or large eagle design. Three die pairings were struck of the 1797 Large Eagle, with the BD-2, as offered here, being the only one actually struck in 1797 (the BD-3 and BD-4 were struck in 1798). A Rarity-4+ die pairing, there are perhaps 80-100 examples of this die pairing known in all grades, and is identified by the long, thin neck on the eagle. Struck from Bass-Dannreuther Die State b/b with the die crack extending from the base of the second 7 in the date.
The presently offered AU53 retains a wealth of original luster that accents the rich antique golden orange and olive-green accents. Boldly defined devices show just a hint of wear on their highest points and the fields show some friction in the form of light lines. A few tiny ticks are visible, but they do not really detract from the overall eye appeal, in person inspection will prove this.
PCGS 17, NGC 15. The current Collectors Universe value is listed at $50,000 and an example sold in August 2022 for $52,800. We always enjoy these large early gold coins, the largest denomination struck for circulation until 1850. This makes a great type coin or example for a date set.
