A lovely CHOICE Mint State example of this important, lower mintage Civil War year. Only 93,600 were struck and this is a very challenging date to find in Mint State. Clearly the present coin sat for ages in an ancient album, where both sides acquired rings of beautiful technicolor patina. Well struck up, the devices show bold definition on the obverse and reverse. A strong glass reveals some stray marks, but they are mostly hidden below the toning and the eye appeal is truly exceptional in every way. PCGS 0, NGC 1. This coin sold in 2018 for $1,725 and the current Collectors Universe value is listed at $2,000. All the other Mint State pieces sold since 2015 have been MS64 or finer, so for the more budget minded collector, the options have been very few and opportunities far apart.
