THE PERFECTION COLLECTION OF CAPPED BUST QUARTERS
A truly beautiful 1821 quarter, an old friend of ours, which appeared as lot 195 in our May 2017 Regency Auction. Just below the Tompkins Condition Census and at the mid point in the Rea-Koenings-Haroutunian Census for the variety.
Visually STUNNING! This is a nearly GEM quality B-4. Well struck devices are highlighted by a very pretty, multi-hued toning. Interesting shades of rich blues, golds, reds, oranges, and teals are brought out to the fore by a glowing and strong underlying mint bloom. Both sides, though especially the reverse have a bold, almost semi-Prooflike flash in the fields, highlighting the amazing coloration. The devices are exceptionally well struck with all the star centers fully split, the monogram in the drapery clasp fully legible and all the hair, cap, and eagle details fully and crisply rendered. The surfaces are clean, and free of any singularly distracting lines or ticks.
Ex Regency Auction XXI, May 2017, lot 195; Heritage, August 2019, lot 3355; David Lawrence Rare Coins, February 2020, lot 4225.
PCGS 8, NGC 14. The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $10,000 and this near-GEM sold for $11,500 in its most recent auction appearance. VERY RARE FINER, and with the PCGS value in MS65 listed at $45,000, this colorful and stunning MS64 seems like a great value to us! Good luck!
