- Tied for the FINEST graded at either service in the BN category, this is an incredibly lustrous and brilliant SUPERB GEM C-1, B-1. Hints of original brick red clings to the protected areas of the devices, especially at the reverse periphery. Sharply struck from Breen Die State III. The eye appeal is very pleasing. A SUPERB Mint State half cent. Walter Breen notes a "small hoard of brown Uncirculated specimens" was evidently discovered, that included about 50 pieces at some time, thought he does not mention when. If such a hoard existed, this coin may have come from that source. PCGS 0, NGC 4. The last one sold for $4,348 in June 2015--that was nearly eight years ago.
