- ITALY. Prisoner of the Vatican. Election of Pope Benedict XV Gold Medal, Year 1 (1914). PCGS Genuine--Tooled, AU Details. Mazio 874; cf. Rinaldi 109 (silver). Weight: 58.49 gms. By Bianchi. Obverse: Bust right, wearing mozetta and zucchetto; Reverse: Coat-of-arms surmounted by crossed keys and Papal tiara; all within wreath. A VERY RAREand enticing medallic issue likely issued in 0.900 fine gold, this piece does exhibit some scattered scratches and hairlines that account for the noted tooling, but remains highly attractive and appealing nonetheless.
