A truly STUNNING EXAMPLE of this Centennial Year San Francisco mint issued Trade dollar. Tied with just one other for FINEST KNOWN honors at PCGS. From a sizable original mintage of 5,227,000, this issue circulated extensively, both domestically before the denomination was demonetized after the Act of July 22, 1876 took effect, and in the Asian trade. In this lofty state of preservation it is virtually unknown and the only other MS66 is the famed Eliasberg-Legend-BlackCat Collection coin that will likely remain off the market for many years. This wonderful GEM is a new addition to the condition census. Freshly graded and offered here for the first time in modern times, this coin walked into a coin shop, where it was purchased raw. Clearly it sat in an old album for many years before being offered for sale, and it acquired beautiful rainbow toning around the peripheries on both sides. Bold, brilliantly lustrous, and crisply struck from an exacting blow from the dies, this coin has an AMAZING eye appeal. Close inspection with a strong glass reveals nothing more than a tiny stray tick or two, nothing that impacts the eye appeal in any way. PCGS 2, NGC 4. The other PCGS MS66 has not sold in auction since the original Eliasberg sale in 1997! The last NGC MS66 to sell was back in 2009. Clearly the current published levels, with a dearth of pricing data must be all wrong. This coin will surpass the records for an 1876-S Trade dollar sold in auction and will not look back! Good luck.
