- 1843-O Liberty Head Quarter Eagle. Large Date. Winter-1, the only known dies. Repunched Mintmark. AU-55 (NGC). Warm medium gold patina with olive undertones. Both sides are boldly defined in most areas with a satiny texture to the surfaces. Scarcer than its identically dated Small Date counterpart, the 1843-O Large Date is the second rarest New Orleans Mint quarter eagle per the rankings compiled by Doug Winter (2020).
