- 1909 Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle. MS-63 (PCGS). OGH. Satin to softly frosted luster greets the viewer from both sides of this sharply struck, green-golden example. A limited mintage of 161,282 circulation strikes helps to explain why the 1909 is among the scarcer entries in the early Saint-Gaudens double eagle series. When he penned his 2004 reference A Guide Book of Double Eagle Gold Coins, Q. David Bowers provided an estimate of 3,000 to 5,000 Mint State coins extant.
