- MEXICO. War of Independence. Chihuahua. 8 Reales, 1816-RP. NGC FINE-15. 31.84 gms. KM-111.1; Cal-type 90#394; El-MX7. Struck over an earlier cast silver Chihuahua 8 Reales of an abnormally large planchet measuring 43 mm and weighing 31.84 gms. It is also interesting to note the central arms on the reverse appear to be three pomegranates rather than the traditional fleur de lis. Typical crude strike. Planchet defect on the obverse but the toning is pleasant there is more detail than usual. In our opinion a touch under graded for the type. A pleasant example with a number of interesting facets.
