- MEXICO. Empire of Maximilian. Peso, 1866-Mo. Mexico City Mint. PCGS MS-62 Gold Shield. KM-388.1. The toning is the real attraction here, though the MS-62 grade is worthy of mention as well with few remaining in this technical state of preservation. The obverse is a riot of greens, teals and turquoise that yield at the rims to rose and amber. While the reverse is not quite as dramatic, it too has a highly attractive toned blue gray silvery patina with iridescent highlights. Sharply struck with few marks or abrasions. If you are ready to take your Maximilian collection to the next level, this is a coin you won't want to miss out on. Estimate: $700 - $1,000.
