Believe it or not, this is the FINEST PCGS-graded example of this very rare variety. PCGS Coin Facts estimates 50 examples survive in all grades. There is just a single NGC AU58 graded finer, a coin that has not been seen in auction since August 2007! The present coin is very sharp in definition, the over mintmark feature is crisp and bold. The surfaces have some marks and the mottled tone and areas of slight roughness suggest that this coin was in the ground at some point shortly after being struck. While not perfect, this coin has a decent look and it is the highest graded example at PCGS. A great coin for any Seated Liberty quarter collector. PCGS 1, NGC 0. A PCGS XF40 CAC sold in September 2013 for $9,400; the only comparable example we can find having sold. Most known examples are lower grade, below VF and have problems that would preclude grading.
