- 1853 United States Assay Office of Gold $20. K-18. Rarity-2. 900 THOUS. AU-53 (PCGS). An attractive example of this exceedingly popular issue exhibiting a light amount of wear. A couple of light marks at the top of the reverse are noted, these not being unusual to Territorial gold pieces. At one time coins of this issue, denomination, and year were the most widely seen in California commerce. Today hundreds survive, not enough to fill the collector demand for them, but sufficient that acquiring a representative example is within the reach of many. PCGS# 10013. NGC ID: ANJC.
