An affordable early gold piece, with a decent overall eye appeal. Lightly worn surfaces have a neat two-tone look with richer orange gold in the fields that yield to lighter yellow gold accents. Some ancient marks from its time in commerce are noted with a strong glass, as are some old hairlines, perhaps from an ancient wiping. The first year of issue for John Reich's Capped Bust design, of which this is the BD-8, the more common of the two marriages for the year. PCGS 21, NGC 5. The last AU50 graded by NGC brought $6,463 in the 2014 FUN auction. Going back to 1997, NGC AU50s have sold in auction. The most recent PCGS coin sold in 2009.
