- Plated in Vlack's Early American Coins (1965)
1785 Connecticut Copper. Miller 8-D, W-2455. Rarity-5+. Bust Left. VF-25 (PCGS).
135.7 grains. Nice medium brown with golden tan devices. Glossy if finely granular under a glass. The reverse is sharp and attractive, showing a vertical series of planchet striations through the last date digit and ET LIB. The obverse is soft on the left side, as always seen. The Boyd-Ford coin, plated in Miller and called "finest seen" at Choice Very Fine, showed an unusually sharp obverse, while pieces like this and the Taylor coin are more typical for the variety. A little planchet flaw is seen on the obverse rim at 12 o'clock, larger one at E of CONNEC. This piece was plated in the first handbook-type specialized guide to colonial coins, Bob Vlack's Early American Coins, published in 1965.
PCGS# 322.
Provenance: From the John "Jack" Royse Collection.
