While the 1878 $3 is considered a type coin, relatively common in all grades, it is indeed quite scarce in this lofty a state of preservation. Exceptionally clean and smooth surfaces are a major highlight. Tons of luster blazes off this coin from everywhere possible. The luster enhances the totally stunning original vibrant yellow and bold orange gold colors. The luster makes the colors "ripple" as you rotate the surfaces in a light. There are NO spots or discolorations. Miss Liberty and the details are frosty and have crisp full strikes. The eye appeal is great! PCGS 237, NGC 142, CAC 49. There are 18 in MS65+ at PCGS. The most recent PCGS MS65+ CAC to sell in auction realized $16,450 in our recent sale of the Oak Collection. Marginally finer MS66 examples sell for $20-$25,000.
