A beast of a Buffalo nickel! WOW! This SUPERB coin is tied for FINEST seen at PCGS and this beautifully preserved example has a very high end look. Like other 1931-S issues, the mintages were lower, due to the lack of economic need in the depths of the Great Depression. Only 1.2 million were struck and is extremely rare in such a lofty grade. The fields are aglow with a rich satiny mint frost, which is very fresh and alluring. The devices have crisp, bold definition and they stand out against the smooth surfaces. Even a glass fails to reveal anything more than a microscopic trace of contact. PCGS 13, NGC 4. The most recent example sold in our May 2019 Regency Auction, bringing $18,213.
