1867 Nickel Three-Cent Piece. Proof-67 Cameo (NGC). Far scarcer than a late date Proof of this type, this exquisite 1867 is of further note as a strike and condition rarity. The surfaces possess exceptional cameo contrast that is fully appreciable given the silky smooth texture on both sides. Fully defined and otherwise untoned, subtle champagne-gold highlights on the obverse and reverse provide further appeal. Minor weakness of strike is noted on the first Roman numeral on the reverse, this being typical of Proof strikings of the time. A Condition Census Superb Gem worthy of the strongest bid.
