- The 16-D is the undisputed KEY date in the Mercury dime series in all grades. From a low mintage of 264,000, most went into circulation, and remained there for many years. Most known examples are apt to be low grade, with the average grade likely around VG10. Every example is in demand from collectors, especially in CHOICE Mint State, as offered here, and anything finer is a major condition rarity. This is a fantastic near-GEM that is totally original and very pleasing. Satiny lustrous surfaces beam with a strong brilliance throughout. Splashes of blue and coppery-gold color cling to the smooth silvery surfaces. The strike is bold and crisp, with just a touch of weakness in the central fasces band. The eye appeal is exceptional. PCGS 13, NGC 8, CAC 4. This is the most recent example to sell in auction, realizing $21,738 in our June 2019 Regency Auction. The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $22,500 and the CAC CPG value is $23,900. Just 8 are graded finer in the non FB designation. This is a great example for a wonderful set of Mercury dimes. We would not be shocked at all if our estimate was exceeded. Good luck. Cert. Number 37059275 PCGS # 4906
