- FROM THE VALLEY VIEW COLLECTION Despite a fairly large mintage of over 9.5 million, the 1877-S Trade dollar is quite RARE in such a fine state of preservation, with fewer than ten coins graded higher at PCGS. This coin is well worthy of its lofty + deignation. This highly lustrous GEM radiates a vibrance reminiscent of an 1880-S Morgan dollar! The surfaces have a swirling cartwheel luster with BOLD hints of Prooflike flash that, especially on the reverse contrasts nicely with the razor sharp devices. There is a good amount of frost on the devices and the fields are very clean, with just a trivial contact mark or two noted for accuracy. Mostly untoned, the brilliant surfaces show just the slightest glint of clear gold that comes out in the light. PCGS 39, NGC 27, CAC 17. There are just 8 in MS65+ and nine are graded higher. The only PCGS/CAC example to sell in auction had a somewhat distracting dappled gray/gold patina on both sides, which realized $9,000. The current PCGS Price Guide value is $9,500 and this brilliant, untoned, GEM is worthy of an even stronger bid. A great coin for type or date purposes, this one will see stiff bidding competition when the hammer falls. Cert. Number 4697411 PCGS # 007046
