FROM THE DR. STEPHEN DAVIDSON COLLECTION The 12-S Liberty nickel, with its low mintage of 238,000 and its status as the final collectible Liberty nickel, has always been a popular date. At one time, it was also considered one of the keys to the series in Mint State. Within the last decade or so, a small group of high grade Mint State pieces came on to the market, making GEMs more available to collectors. This is a lovely nickel-silver GEM with pearly lustrous surfaces. Well struck overall with near complete definition of Liberty's hair curls. Both sides are clean and free of any distracting marks, lines, or discolorations. The eye appeal is lovely. PCGS 47, NGC 10. The most recent example sold in the 2021 ANA auction realized $4,680 and we sold one in February 2021 for $4,700. The current Collectors Universe value is listed at $5,500.
