- Simply beautiful! This is a high Condition Census O-120a, and is certainly one of the FINEST from this die pair. An intense mint luster blooms vividly all over with a bold swirling cartwheel effect on both obverse and reverse. The peripheries boast a rich, Caribbean blue yielding to a tangerine-rose in the centers. Sharply struck on both sides, the definition is nice and crisp on all the devices. Wonderful GEM quality surfaces add to the outstanding eye appeal. This die marriage is easy to identify, the series of die lines to the left of the date under the bust and the "TI" alignment on the reverse confirm the O-120 marriage, and the die crack above UNITED STATES identifies the later "a" die state. This obverse was also paired with a different reverse, creating the ultra rare O-149 die marriage (R-7+). Even though this is a Condition Census level piece, we cannot locate a prior appearance for this beauty. PCGS 16, NGC 19. The last non-CAC approved piece sold nearly a decade ago in the 2011 Central States auction, realizing $14,950. The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $16,000. Just a dozen pieces are graded finer at PCGS. A great type coin or piece for a Condition Census set of Overton varieties--regardless, this coin is going to see strong bidding! Cert.
