Finest PCGS-Certified Deep Cameo Proof 1895 Nickel 1895 Liberty Head Nickel. Proof-66+ Deep Cameo (PCGS). CAC. A Proof 1895 nickel of singular beauty and desirability, this is the sole finest example of the issue certified by PCGS in the Deep Cameo category. Dusted with delicate champagne-gold iridescence, the surfaces display an exceptional degree of mirrored reflectivity in the fields. The design elements, on the other hand, are very frosty, highlighting the razor sharp striking detail. Virtually flawless in every way, and just right for an advanced Proof type collection or PCGS Registry Set. The Mint struck 2,062 Proof nickel five-cent pieces in 1895 and, as Q. David Bowers (2006) observes, most are "quite nice, with deeply mirrored fields." The author's comment is obviously reserved for universally brilliant specimens that dominate much of the PCGS- and NGC-certified populations for this issue. The design elements are seldom frosted to an appreciable degree, for even in the certified Cameo category this issue is elusive. PCGS has certified just two examples as Deep Cameo, joined by just one NGC-certified Ultra Cameo specimen. This is the single highest graded in this highly select trio of strike rarities.
