- 1942-P Jefferson Nickel. Type II. Proof-68 (PCGS). CAC.
Gorgeously toned surfaces exhibit a blend of powder blue, lemon-yellow, champagne-apricot, salmon-pink and sea-green iridescence that leaves an area of brilliance over the upper right obverse. The reflective finish is serene throughout, the design elements fully rendered and crisp. Alone among Proof Jefferson nickel issues of the Wartime Silver Alloy composition, the 1942-P is eagerly sought for specimen type purposes. At the present level of preservation, and with such outstanding visual appeal, survivors from a mintage of 27,600 Proofs are decidedly rare.
Provenance: From the George "Buddy" Byers Buckeye Collection. Earlier ex Heritage's sale of the Geyer Family Collection, November 2013 New York Signature Auction, lot 3547.
PCGS Population: 17; 2 finer in all categories (Proof-69 finest).
PCGS# 4180. NGC ID: 27A4.
