A blazing black and white contrasted near-GEM CAMEO Proof silver dollar struck at the outbreak of the Civil War. Brilliant watery mirrors beam boldly from all over. The stark contrast between the frosted devices and watery fields gives this coin a fabulous look. There is no toning anywhere and the eye appeal is excellent, unmarred from any mishandling or other issues. Only 1000 were struck, many of which went unsold and melted at the mint. PCGS 13, NGC 9. There has not been an NGC-graded PR64 CAM sold in a decade! The most recent example to sell was a PCGS-graded example that realized $14,400. The current Collectors Universe value is listed at $11,500. Between PCGS and NGC there are just five coins graded higher in the CAMEO designation.
