- 1905-S Liberty Head Eagle. MS-62 (PCGS). CAC. Lustrous honey-rose surfaces are fully struck with superior eye appeal for the assigned grade. One of the scarcest 20th century issues in the Liberty Head eagle series, the 1905-S has a deceptively generous mintage of 369,250 pieces. Apparently very few examples were included in gold shipments to Europe and other overseas destinations, the bulk of the mintage likely retained in government storage until destroyed through melting in 1937. In addition to being scarce in an absolute sense, the Mint State example we offer here is quite rare from a condition standpoint and ranks among the finer known to PCGS.
