Significant Fuld-OH-165GJ-13a Store Card Unique - High Grade - Strong Eye Appeal Ohio--Cincinnati. Undated (1861-1865) William W. Wert, Commission Boots and Shoes. Fuld-165GJ-13a. Rarity-10. Copper. Plain Edge. MS-63 BN (PCGS). 19 mm. This impressive rarity was once part of the collections of Dr. Herman Aqua and William Fayerweather. Our consignor relates an interesting story about these two prominent collectors: "On November 11, 1997, Steve Tanenbaum told me this: 'Herman Aqua was contacted by Bill Fayerweather and offered his 4,000 piece CWT collection. A transaction was completed. A year later William Fayerweather confessed that the 4,000-piece group were his duplicates and offered Aqua his 5,000-piece collection. Again a purchase was completed. A short time later Aqua was contacted a third time, with William Fayerweather admitting that the 4,000, and 5,000-piece groups were his duplicates and triplicates and offering his 6,000-piece main collection. A third purchase was agreed. Aqua was able to dispose of most of his duplicates; unfortunately, the Aqua house was robbed and the majority of his collection was stolen in the early 1960s. A large portion of the stolen tokens were recovered from the widow of the thief 30 years later!! I still don't know where William Fayerweather acquired groups of 4,000, 5,000, & 6,000 different CWT!'" Provenance: From the Tampa Bay Collection.
