- 1788 New Jersey Copper. Maris 65-u, W-5495. Rarity-3. Head Right. VF-20 (PCGS). 121.0 grains. Glossy medium brown with excellent eye appeal despite fine granularity. The die edge is visible around the upper left periphery of the reverse, while the obverse is pretty well centered. The central details are a bit soft, as usually encountered with this die state, but other elements are very boldly defined. This is Die State 4, with all the cracks described by Siboni, Howes, and Ish, but not yet late in that state. Aside from a little harmless scale around UNUM, this is a sharp and relatively problem free example of this interesting and elusive variety. Provenance: From the E Pluribus Unum Collection.
