The ultimate GEM AU example of this low-mintage Civil War year $3! This is the ONLY AU58+ graded by either service, making this superb super slider a coin that anyone building an AU58 set of Civil War era gold. Only the slightest hint of friction touches the high points; the satiny mint frost is essentially that of a fully MS piece. The surfaces are uber-clean, free of any singularly distracting marks. Only 5,750 were struck. PCGS 30, NGC 49, CAC 8. As mentioned, this is the SOLE AU58+ graded, and graded as such, has not been in auction. Don’t let the pops fool you! The last AU58 to sell was an NGC non-CAC that sold for $4,994 in April 2013 (that’s four years ago!) The most recent PCGS coin was CAC approved and sold for $5,319 in the 2012 FUN Auction. A PCGS, non-CAC MS61 sold for $5,640 in a January 2017 auction. The current PCGS value is listed at $5,750 and with this coins GREAT look we would not be surprised if it hit that level!
