- GREAT BRITAIN. Groat, ND (1431-32/3). London Mint; mm: cross patonce/plain cross. Henry VI (first reign). PCGS AU-53.
S-1874; N-1460. Pinecone-mascle issue. Obverse: Crowned facing bust, within tressure of nine arcs; inward-facing lis on six cusps; pinecone in legend; Reverse: Long cross pattee, with trefoil in each angle; mascle in legend. Contemporaneous with the time of the War of the Roses, this example is absolutely stunning in beauty. A dark tone coats exquisitely struck details on a well shaped flan and almost no evidence of actual handling, certainly worthy of being the best graded example that PCGS has ever seen.
Estimate: $200 - $400.
Provenance: From the Runze Collection.
