This is a gorgeous, highly lustrous, essentially PRISTINE SUPERB GEM example of a common date in an extremely uncommon state of preservation. Over 12 million Morgan dollars were churned out at the Philadelphia mint in 1883, but few were saved. Above MS66+ this date becomes scarce, and the population is tiny at this lofty grade level with just four so graded currently and one finer. Satiny luster radiates from the excessively smooth and defect free surfaces. Ms. Liberty and all the details have complete strikes and the reliefs are nice and frosted. Close inspection with a strong glass shows one or two of the most insignificant ticks, which is the only reason we can see that CAC did not bean this beauty. The eye appeal is exceptional. PCGS 4, NGC 4. The last non-CAC PCGS graded coin sold nearly a decade ago. Even the last PCGS/CAC coin sold in the 2011 FUN auction; those records are too ancient to be relevant today. The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $37,500. The sole finest is the Coronet MS68+ that we sold in June 2015 for $49,938. This coin has a great look and is bound for the finest of Morgan Dollar collections. We anticipate strong bidding from serious collectors to bring home this beauty. Cert. Number 36762345 PCGS # 7142
