- Lot 461 1856 N-14 R1 Italic 5 PCGS graded MS64 Brown.Lustrous bluish steel brown and chocolate with traces of faded mint color showing on both sides. The surfaces are satiny and there are no notable marks other than some trivial scuffs here and there and a tiny planchet chip on the rim at star 12. MDS, die state b. The fields are flowlined and the small bar under the 8 is gone (the usual die state for this variety). The strike at the top of the obverse and bottom of the reverse is a bit weak, as always seen on this variety thanks to non-parallel die faces. Our grade is MS60. The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 6; 3 finer: 1 in 64+, 2 in 65.
