1871-CC Liberty Half Eagle. VF-20 (NGC). The deep honey-gold surfaces exhibit even wear and only a few light marks, even when viewed with a loupe. Of the 20,770 examples of the date struck, nearly the entire mintage saw heavy circulation with the typical survivor today apt to be VF as offered here. Perhaps just 90 to 120 examples of the date are extant in all grades, and many serious collectors have "settled" for a pleasing VF-20 example. Choice for the grade and a prominent scarcity from the Carson City Mint.
