- 1879 Pattern Metric Dollar. Judd-1617, Pollock-1813. Rarity-4. Proof-64 (PCGS). Designed by William Barber, the obverse exhibits a left-facing head of Liberty with the Latin motto E PLURIBUS UNUM above and the date 1879 below. Liberty wears a coronet inscribed LIBERTY and 13 stars are arranged at the border seven left, six right. The central reverse is inscribed 895.8 S. / 4.2 - G. / 100 - C. / 25 GRAMS within a beaded circle. Outside of the circle is a wreath of corn and cotton and a cartouche above is inscribed with the motto DEO EST GLORIA. The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA is above and the denomination ONE DOLLAR is below. Struck in silver (examples exist in both standard silver and goloid metric alloy) with a reeded edge.<br /> A golden-toned specimen with a few blushes of bolder color on the reverse that appear to be the result of minor as-struck planchet flaws. This piece is fully struck and free of mentionable post-production detractions.
