- 1949-S Roosevelt Dime. MS-67+ FB (PCGS). A smattering of antique-gold and olive toning decorates mostly the outer regions of this beautiful Superb Gem. This color emphasizes the rich mint frosting at the centers of each side. With only 13.5 million examples struck, the 1949-S Roosevelt dime has the second lowest mintage of the entire series, after the 1955 (12.4 mill). It is difficult to locate in Uncirculated grades and it becomes a considerable condition rarity above Gem. Examples will Full Bands are similarly elusive, commanding a substantial premium over more weakly struck examples in the same grade. The PCGS Population Report shows just 15 coins at the present grade of MS-67 FB and only 1 finer at the MS-68 FB level, that indicating the truly challenging nature of this issue in high grades.
