1857-D Liberty Quarter Eagle. AU-58 (PCGS). Deep orange-gold with fiery luster and great in-hand appeal, and with deep red-orange highlights in the deepest design recesses. No&nbsp;marks assail the unassisted eye, assuring choice quality for the grade all around. From a small mintage of 2,364 pieces, a paltry amount compared to the mintages of the three other mints to produce quarter eagles of the date. Surprisingly, several Mint State examples of the date are listed in the PCGS <em>Population Report.</em> That fact aside, the present fiery orange beauty is easily at the top of its grade niche and should make a grand addition to an advanced&nbsp;quarter eagle or Dahlonega Mint cabinet.
