- GREAT BRITAIN. Palladium Prize Medal, 1935. PCGS SP-65.
51.57 gms. Eimer-1203; BHM-1543. Dies designed by William Wyon (1828, first awarded in 1831). Annual Wollaston medal, struck in palladium, of the Geological Society of London, named to "Sir John Smith Flett 1935". VERY RAREand the first example that we have offered. When Dix Noonan Webb sold a gold one in 2004, they noted, "The Wollaston medal, named after its benefactor, William Hyde Wollaston (1766-1828), is the highest award of the Geological Society. The medal is normally given to geologists who have had a significant influence by means of a substantial body of excellent research in either or both 'pure' and 'applied' aspects of the science." John Smith Flett (26 June 1869 - 26 January 1947) was a Scottish physician and geologist. Sharply struck with a bold high relief portrait, brilliant and attractive.
Estimate: $1,500 - $2,500.
