A date that clearly was not saved at the time of issue, and is extremely rare in Choice Mint State and finer. This coin is a collector's dream! Combining high grade, bold eye appeal, and high end quality, you cannot beat this 1841! Brilliant underlying luster is brought out while viewed in a light, making the iridescent blue, orange, rose, and olive hues sparkle. Both sides are fully struck up from an exacting and precision blow from the dies. Generally handled with care since 1841, we note a few ancient bag marks when strong magnification is used. The eye appeal is very high end! While not noted on the holder, this is a repunched date, with the lower portions of the 1 and 8 clearly doubled. We also note some cool, spidery die cracks on the left obverse . PCGS 7, NGC 4, CAC 1. The two most recent examples sold for $3,525 (January and October 2016), and neither of those were CAC-- this CAC approved coin has a much more colorful look and should sell for more! There are only nine coins finer at PCGS, the finest being the MS65 that was in the Gardner Collection. Cert. Number 25674666 PCGS # 6236
