- 1739 Admiral Vernon Porto Bello Medal. Vernon's Portrait and Icons. Adams-Chao PBvi 16-W, M-G 114, 114A. Rarity-5. Bath Metal. EF-40 (PCGS). 39.1 mm. Bright brassy-gold surfaces possess superior eye appeal for the assigned grade. The strike is well executed, overall detail bold, softness to the high points largely the result of light rub. Wispy handling marks and a touch of roughness to the texture are easily overlooked in hand, and just as easily forgiven. Evidence of light die buckling in the upper left obverse field is typical of this variety, the obverse die previously used in the Adams-Chao PBvi 16-V pairing and showing more signs of fatigue here.
