This is a sensational example of this odd denomination in SUPERB GEM condition. Clearly this coin has been lovingly cared for since it came off the dies! The surfaces are of unimpeachable quality! Both sides are wonderfully lustrous with a lovely pearly-silver hue that is dusted delicately over smooth fields and sharply struck devices. While there is a touch of weakness, as usually seen on the reverse, the definition is much stronger than usually seen on examples of this date. The eye appeal is spectacular for the grade. PCGS 70, NGC 54, CAC 22. There are a dozen graded MS66+. The most recent example in this grade was NOT CAC and brought $9,400 in our September 2019 Regency Auction. Prior to that, this coin brought nearly $10,000 in our Regency Auction 29 (November 2018). The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $9,950. VERY RARE any finer, a 67 will cost nearly double!
