The date 1929 instantly takes you back to the end of the Roaring Twenties and invokes the memory of the stock market crash and the beginnings of the Great Depression. That this coin survived in near pristine condition and was not spent during the depths of the depression in the early 30s, makes it something truly special. The luster is bold and brilliant with a thick satiny sheen. The design elements are crisply rendered by an exacting blow from the dies. To the naked eye this coin appears untoned, but with the aid of a glass, a faint, dappled olive-russet patina is seen on both sides, attesting to the originality. The eye appeal is great. PCGS 240, NGC 136, CAC 43. Just a dozen PCGS MS65+s have been graded, and the last CAC approved one sold over four years ago for $3,760. The current Collectors Universe value is $3,500.
