- 1842-D Liberty Head Half Eagle. Winter 7-E. Small Date, Small Letters. AU-50 (PCGS). This endearing example exhibits iridescent reddish-rose highlights to a base of warmer honey-orange patina. Both sides retain bold to sharp striking detail throughout the design, ample satin luster also readily evident as the surfaces rotate under a light. The 1842-D Small Date, Small Letters is a conditionally challenging half eagle with most survivors well worn and grading no higher than the basal Extremely Fine level.
