- 1835 Matron Head Cent. N-7, 17. Rarity-1. Head of 1836. EF-45 (PCGS). Dark chocolate-brown with faint mahogany undertones and gentle olive striations. Glossy and very appealing. The early die state with sharp dentils, Howard Newcomb's N-7, and as this was his own coin it might well have been the coin he described the variety from. A prominent double profile from the forehead to the chin. A superb provenance. Includes the Newcomb collection pillbox. Provenance: From the John McBride Collection. Earlier ex Howard R.
