- 1829 Capped Bust Half Dime. LM-3. Rarity-2. MS-65+ (PCGS). CAC.
This elegant upper end Gem is beautifully toned in a blend of vivid, iridescent reddish-orange, olive-gray, powder blue and dove-gray colors. Intensely lustrous, the surfaces also sport a lively satin to semi-reflective finish. The first half dime struck since 1805 and the first issue in the Capped Bust series, the 1829 is very popular for type purposes. Fortunately, enough examples were set aside at the time of production or otherwise managed to survive without seeing commercial use that acquiring an Uncirculated coin in grades through MS-64 should prove relatively easy under normal market conditions. Gems in MS-65 are scarce, however, while any finer and the conditionally challenging nature of the 1829 comes readily to the fore. With a razor sharp strike, expert preservation and awe-inspiring eye appeal, even the most discerning numismatist will be impressed with this PQ offering from the Millholland cabinet.
