- The 1959 is a conditionally RARE date, which is VERY RARE in MS66+ and excessively so any finer. This is a gorgeous example that is totally original and very high end. The eye appeal is truly spectacular and has a very cool look. Glorious splashes of clover, emerald, and olive green blend with coppery-peach, apricot-rose, lemon-yellow, and lilac-dove patina have an almost Jackson Pollack-esque pattern. The reverse shows freckles of russet-olive scattered over brilliantly lustrous surfaces. The luster is brilliant and bold with a rolling cartwheel finish that brings out the varied shades. Sharply struck the lettering of the Liberty Bell, as well as the lines, are fully rendered, nice and crisp. Both sides are pleasing and have just a few tiny ticks from contact, but none have any impact on the wonderful visual allure. PCGS 138, NGC 46, CAC 23. There are 25 graded MS66+ FBL and a mere 2 finer. Two CAC-approved examples sold in August 2020 realizing $3,408 and $3,840. Prior to those two, we sold one in May 2019 for $4,700 and one in July 2018 for $14,688 (the record for the issue). The current Collectors Universe value is listed at $4,350 and it jumps to $35,000 in MS67 FBL (neither of the two so graded have ever sold in auction). A very impressive coin that will certainly delight any advanced Registry Set collector, and a contender for a top tier set! Cert. Number 81340199 PCGS # 86676.00
