- Circa 1859 Equestrian / North Point Trial by Robert Lovett, Jr. Musante GW-255, Baker-Unlisted. Copper. Plain edge. MS-67 RB (PCGS).
32.1 mm. A lovely medal with strong reflectivity that accentuates the vibrant violet, blue, green, yellow and orange mottling on both sides. Plenty of original red remains as well. Sharply struck on a moderately thick flan. The equestrian die is that used on the Siege of Boston medals, but it is in a much later state here, with the lettering all but completely removed from the die. The North Point die is a different one than used on the GW-247 and GW-249 medals. Musante lists these in copper, brass and white metal, all noted as very rare. This is the plate piece in that reference, though darkly reproduced therein.
Provenance: Ex William Spohn Baker Collection, to the Historical Society of Pennsylvania by bequest, November 15, 1897.
