详细说明: 1787 Fugio Copper. Pointed Rays. Newman 18-H, W-6950. Rarity-5. UNITED STATES, 4 Cinquefoils. VF-25 (PCGS). Smooth and attractive mahogany brown with contrasting tan devices. A very pleasing piece, finer than most known of this elusive variety. As we noted in the Retz sale catalog, Retz recorded just seven specimens he graded VF-30 or finer. The Boyd-Ford piece, which served as the original Newman obverse plate, is about as sharp as this one; it brought $4,887.50 in 2003. This piece shows a nearly invisible rim bruise above GI of FUGIO and a few old circulation scratches at the base of the gnomon and the left sunrays, to no great impact on the very positive eye appeal. A very nice example, one that would be at home in an advanced collection of Fugio coppers.
