- 1807/6 Draped Bust Cent. S-273. Large 7. AU-58 BN (NGC). This gorgeous example offers an exceptional strike and near-Mint preservation that are sure to please the exacting large cent enthusiast. A marbling of chocolate brown hues paints the surfaces, accented by suggestions of teal and gold across the design elements. The dentils remain nearly complete around the obverse circumference and LIBERTY is strong at the border, which is remarkable in a survivor from the S-273 dies. Evidence of clashing surrounds the central devices on each side, though the motifs retain considerable intricacy and Liberty's hair is impressively detailed. The fields are blanketed with a uniform, satiny luster, accompanied by the faintest traces of friction atop the high points. A few marks at Liberty's temple and a thin hairline above CENT on the reverse comprise the roster of notable blemishes throughout. This piece delivers delightful eye appeal and superlative technical merit that is seldom seen on this issue. With just seven pieces certified finer by NGC, this 1807/6 cent is among the finer certified survivors of the issue and is also a superior quality survivor from the Sheldon-273 dies.
