FROM THE UNFORGETTABLE COLLECTION A special Boone for sure! Tied for FINEST graded at PCGS, this clearly is one of the best known from a small original mintage of 5,005. The obverse displays a wonderful blush of icy blue over brilliant silver surfaces. That same hue of blue dominates most of the reverse, framed by a nearly complete ring of deep, sunset orange. The devices are sharply struck and were it not for a tiny mark on the great pioneer's cheekbone, this coin could have upgraded, our consignor certainly thought it had a shot. Needless to say, this coin is all there from the standpoint of technical quality and the eye appeal is exceptional and truly unforgettable! PCGS 65, NGC 20, CAC 31. PCGS has graded 10 in MS67+ and NONE FINER. The record price realized for a 36-D Boone was for an untoned MS67 PCGS back in the 2004 FUN auction, which brought $3,450--this beauty will likely beat that level when the hammer finally falls.
